But you can't smoke here

No smoking has hit Calgary. Didn't we already have it? I guess I just don't get out enough.

Oh wait, I avoid smoky places. No smoking hit me in the 1980s.

I don't think the anti-non-smoking people remember what it was like when there were no non-smoking areas inside restaurants, bars, planes, buses, arenas... When smokers ruled and dinosaurs walked the earth. It was horrible because no matter where you went, there was smoke.

I'm very glad we have made non-smoking the norm.

However, I do feel sorry for smokers who have to stand outside in the cold taking their miserable cigarette break. I don't object to sealed smoking rooms in the basements of buildings far away from the fresh air intake vents. The addiction to nicotine is just not easy to give up. So, for all you smokers, I hope you make it. It could be a long winter.
